MACON - The Missouri Department of Transportation will be closing to traffic the Barber Creek Bridge on Route 139 in Putnam County on Monday, July 19, at 7:30 a.m. The bridge is located just north of Newtown.
The bridge will be closed to all traffic for 50 days until work to replace the bridge is completed. During this time, motorists must choose alternate routes. A suggested detour map can be found on our website at http://www.modot.mo.gov/northcentral/safesound/vpm-putnam.htm.
The closure is weather dependent and could be delayed or rescheduled.
The Route 139 Bridge is part of the Safe & Sound Bridge Program to replace or rehabilitate 800 bridges across the state within the next five years; most of the bridges will be closed to traffic.
The contract for the Route 139 Bridge rehabilitation was awarded to KTU Constructors.
